Florian Wirtz Injured as Liverpool Defeat Brighton 2-0 at Anfield
Liverpool recorded their first home league victory of the season against Brighton, but Florian Wirtz suffered an ankle injury.
Liverpool earned a 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield on Sunday, October 25, 2026, marking their first home league win of the season and moving them into fourth place in the Premier League. The hosts went ahead in the 17th minute when Florian Wirtz's shot was deflected into the net by Brighton's Pascal Groß for an own goal. Alexander Isak added Liverpool's second goal four minutes later in the 21st minute.
However, the win was overshadowed by an injury concern for Wirtz, who was forced off in the 65th minute with an ankle issue. Head coach Andoni Iraola addressed the midfielder's status after the match, stating: "Unfortunately, he had to leave the pitch with a small twist of the ankle. It doesn't look very big but we are playing every three days so we need to see where he is."
