Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick delivered a five-minute monologue defending his side following a heavy Champions League defeat.
Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick opened his pre-match press conference on Friday, October 23, 2026, with an uninterrupted monologue lasting five minutes and 27 seconds before accepting any questions from journalists. The dramatic address came in the wake of a heavy 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como, a result that generated intense pressure on the club's managerial staff and squad.
During his address, Carrick candidly admitted that "recently we haven't had a good time" and explicitly described the performance against Como as "unacceptable". However, the manager issued a passionate rally to his players, urging them to rediscover Manchester United's core identity founded on "humility" and "resilience". Carrick stated he was "100 per cent" confident that he can turn around the team's form starting with Sunday's Premier League fixture against Bournemouth.
