FIFA issues match bans to Egypt manager Hossam Hassan, director Ibrahim Hassan, and forward Mostafa Zico
FIFA's Disciplinary Committee has handed match bans to Egypt's head coach Hossam Hassan, team director Ibrahim Hassan, and winger Mostafa Zico following post-match incidents after their World Cup elimination.
FIFA's Disciplinary Committee has formally issued match suspensions to Egyptian national team head coach Hossam Hassan, team manager Ibrahim Hassan, and winger Mostafa Zico. The disciplinary measures follow post-match incidents that took place after Egypt's 3-2 defeat against Argentina in the World Cup last-16 stage. The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) officially confirmed the sanctions on October 19, 2026, revealing that both Hossam Hassan and Ibrahim Hassan received three-match bans each, while Mostafa Zico was handed a five-match suspension.
In an official statement, the EFA quoted the decision: "The decisions include the suspension of Hossam Hassan and Ibrahim Hassan for three matches each, while Ziko has been suspended for five matches." The sanctions were triggered by post-match remarks blaming refereeing errors for Egypt's elimination alongside direct insults directed toward the referee during a post-match interview. The EFA added that it has requested the detailed grounds for the decision from FIFA's Disciplinary Committee in order to evaluate legal options for a potential appeal.
