Lisandro Martínez Issues Public Apology After Carrington Meeting with Carrick and Wilcox
Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez apologized via Instagram after criticism over summer transfer investment following the Champions League loss to Atlético Madrid.
Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez issued a public apology on Thursday following clear-the-air discussions with manager Michael Carrick and director of football Jason Wilcox at Carrington. The Argentina international had previously aired critical remarks regarding the club's hierarchy after Tuesday's 2-0 Champions League defeat against Atlético Madrid, alleging that the squad was left lacking adequate summer transfer market investment to stay competitive.
Following a club fine, Martínez released an official statement on Instagram to settle the matter. "Today I met with the club's leadership and the manager. It was a very positive conversation, where we were able to exchange views and speak openly about what happened after Tuesday's game," wrote the defender. He added: "The frustration of the defeat led me to express how I felt at a time and place that perhaps were not the right ones, and for that I want to apologise." Manchester United now turn their attention back to domestic duties when they face Premier League rivals Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday.
