Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said he was "terrified" before returning to Old Trafford after the brain haemorrhage he suffered in May 2018. Speaking to BBC Breakfast, the 84-year-old said he was unsure how supporters would react when he took his seat for United's Premier League match against Wolves less than four months after emergency surgery. "I was terrified. I wish I could say I was comfortable. I wasn't," he said. The crowd gave him a standing ovation, and he recalled that his late wife Cathy was close to tears beside him. Ferguson also described temporarily losing his voice after the haemorrhage and recovering it through speech therapy. He said he is "feeling quite good despite small injuries" and remains a regular at Old Trafford.
In Spain, former Athletic Club captain Julen Guerrero, 52, suffered a myocardial infarction last week after falling ill on a trip to Bilbao for an advertising event, according to Infobae and Lecturas. He has been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home, out of danger. The episode comes six months after the death of his wife, Elsa Landabaso, in April. Guerrero, who spent his whole playing career at Athletic and played for Spain at two World Cups, now works as general manager of Segunda Federación side CD Estepona.
