European Roundup: Kane Makes History in Bayern's 7-0 Rout as Chelsea Fall to Brentford
Harry Kane broke a Bundesliga record in Bayern Munich's 7-0 victory over Union Berlin, while Chelsea suffered a 3-0 loss to Brentford and Monaco reclaimed top spot in Ligue 1.
Bayern Munich delivered a stunning performance at the Allianz Arena on Friday, September 18, 2026, defeating Union Berlin 7-0 in Matchday 4 of the German Bundesliga. Jamal Musiala kicked off the scoring in the 18th minute before Harry Kane converted a penalty in the 39th minute. Michael Olise scored in the 43rd, 73rd, and 76th minutes to complete his first hat-trick for Bayern, while Kane added a header in the 54th minute and substitute Ismael Saibari scored in the 70th minute. With his brace, Kane became the fastest player to reach 100 Bundesliga goals, hitting the milestone in his 98th appearance and breaking Dieter Müller's record of 129 matches. Speaking to Sky Germany, Kane stated: "I'm very proud to reach 101 Bundesliga goals. In the short time I've been here, I've loved every second of it. When I'm playing with these players — Michael, Luis, and Jamal, I'm going to get chances."
In the Premier League, Brentford handed Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso his second league defeat of the season with a decisive 3-0 victory at the Gtech Community Stadium on Matchweek 5. After a goalless first half, Brentford dominated the second period with goals from Jaidon Anthony in the 61st minute, Igor Thiago in the 83rd minute, and Fábio Carvalho in the 90+4th minute. The emphatic win moved unbeaten Brentford up to third place in the Premier League table. Meanwhile, Chelsea's defensive troubles continued to deepen, with the Blues collecting just one point from their last three league matches and conceding 12 goals across their opening five games of the campaign.
In Ligue 1, AS Monaco reclaimed top spot in the standings following a 2-1 home victory against RC Lens at the Stade Louis-II on Matchday 5. Paris Brunner opened the scoring for Monaco in the 33rd minute with his fourth league goal of the season, but Matthieu Udol leveled the score for Lens with a header in the 57th minute. Monaco sealed all three points in the 84th minute when Lens defender Jonathan Gradit deflected a cross from Vanderson into his own net. The victory extended manager Filipe Luís's unbeaten Ligue 1 start to four wins and one draw, putting Monaco back at the summit of the league with 13 points.
