Chris Wood Double Fires Nottingham Forest Past Leicester City 3-1 to Move Fifth
Chris Wood struck twice in the second half as Nottingham Forest secured an emphatic 3-1 East Midlands derby victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium to climb into fifth place in the Premier League.
Nottingham Forest claimed local bragging rights and surged into fifth place in the Premier League table courtesy of a clinical 3-1 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
The East Midlands derby got off to an electric start when Ryan Yates opened the scoring for Forest in the 16th minute. Leicester's backline failed to clear an initial attack, allowing the Forest captain to pounce on the loose ball and drill a low 25-yard strike past Mads Hermansen into the bottom corner.
Leicester responded promptly seven minutes later through Jamie Vardy. The veteran forward timed his run perfectly to get between the Forest centre-backs and guide home Harry Winks' teasing low delivery from close range in the 23rd minute.
However, the second half belonged entirely to Forest striker Chris Wood. Just two minutes after the restart, Elliot Anderson picked out Wood on the edge of the penalty area. The New Zealand international expertly spun away from defender Caleb Okoli before curling a precise shot in off the far post.
Wood doubled his tally on the hour mark, capitalizing on a costly defensive mix-up. Leicester defender Wout Faes misjudged a long clearance from goalkeeper Matz Sels, inadvertently heading the ball backwards, and Wood reacted instantly to loop a measured header over the stranded Hermansen.
The brace took Wood to seven Premier League goals for the campaign, trailing only Erling Haaland in the division's scoring charts, while extending Forest's unbeaten away run to seven matches.
"It's all down to the team," Wood said after the final whistle. "They supply me with a lot of chances. I'm not one who's going to beat four players and stick one in the top corner. I rely on the service of my teammates and they just keep delivering for me."
