Curtis Jones and Mohamed Salah Fire Liverpool Past Chelsea to Retain Premier League Summit

Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League table as Curtis Jones struck the decisive second-half winner in a gripping 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Anfield.

Liverpool reclaimed top spot in the Premier League with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Chelsea in an intense encounter at Anfield.

The hosts broke the deadlock in the 29th minute when Mohamed Salah emphatically converted a penalty, awarded after Levi Colwill caught Curtis Jones inside the box. Chelsea responded immediately after the interval, leveling the score in the 48th minute as Nicolas Jackson broke clear and calmly finished past Caoimhin Kelleher, with the goal confirmed after a VAR review overturned an initial offside flag.

Liverpool delivered an instant response just three minutes later. Salah delivered a pinpoint curling cross behind the visitors' backline, allowing Jones to control and poke the ball past goalkeeper Robert Sánchez from close range in the 51st minute. Despite sustained pressure from Enzo Maresca's side in the closing stages, Arne Slot's men defended resolutely to secure their seventh league victory in eight matches and move onto 21 points at the summit of the table.
